Eliza Mae Chatman Davis Obituary

Eliza Mae Chatman Davis was born June 17, 1927 in Crowley, LA to the late George and Jeanette Chatman. She was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 19, 2007 at Promise Specialty Hospital. A native of Crowley, LA, she was a resident of Port Arthur for more than 59 years. She was a graduate of Crowley High School. In November 1945 she was united in marriage to Claytie Davis, Sr. of whom she shared 61 years of marriage. To this union seven children were born: five boys and two girls. She was a member of Carter Chapel CME Church, where she served faithfully as a member of the Stewardess Board and the Women’s Missionary Society. She was also a member of the Eastern Star Ladies Auxiliary until her health failed.

A visitation is scheduled from 8 am until 10 am on Saturday, May 26th at Carter Chapel CME Church. Funeral service is scheduled for 10 am on Saturday, May 26th at the church with Rev. Robert McBride officiating. Burial will follow at Live Oak Mausoleum under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.

She leaves to cherish her memories her daughters, Diana Davis Miller (George) and Sharon Davis Ozen (Clifford) all of Port Arthur; sons, Gregory of Port Arthur, Donald (Michelle) of Houston, Kenneth (Patricia) of Port Arthur and Claytie Jr. (Bishop Sarah Davis) of Maseru Lesotho, Southern Africa; a devoted niece, Tanya Fontnette (Danny); 13 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claytie Davis Sr.; her parents, George and Jeanette Chatman; one son, Arthur Davis; brother, Charles Chatman; and sisters Hernell Chatman Wilson and Birdell Chatman Lyons.
