  Notes	Gertrude Ford was born in Springville, Alabama in 1895. The Death record reports that her parents are George and Sweetie Collins. It's very possible that Gertrude Ford was adopted. Daniel Day, (Gertrude's son) reports that Gertrude's grandmother is white. Gertrude died just 6 years after she gave birth to her children, Daniel Edgar and Algernon C. Day. Gertrude died from complications as a result of Pulmonary Tuberculosis. Thomas worked for Tennessee Coal and Iron Railroad in Birmingham, Alabama. After Gertrude died in May 1919, he couldn't work and care for the children alone. He sent them back to his hometown in Mount Meigs. Anna L. Judkins an aunt or cousin, took them in as her own. After she died, Richard and Rachael Day, their grandparents continued to raise them. Thomas Day marries Collie and while Algie and Danny were in their teens.. he brought them up to Chicago. Once in Chicago however Daniel and Edgar both lived in rooming houses, sometimes separate rooming houses and bounced from home to home. Thomas helped when he could but Thomas was also living in a rooming house himself. Eventually, the teens learned to fend for themselves. Daniel and Edgar worked odd jobs and Daniel eventually joined the Military. When Thomas died Daniel maintained communication with his Stepmother Collie Day and they became close. Algernon C. Day married Rosa B. Billings and their union produced Cynthia and Algernon Day/Finley. Daniel later married Sanone Nickerson in 1942 and they produced Sandra and Gregory. Algernon C. Day Sr died April 25th, 1971 @ 59 years of age due to complications with Tuberculosis Meningitis and Edgar Day lived until 89 years of age.

  A 1919 Death Certificate states that Gertrude Ford was born to George Collins and "Sweetie" Collins out of Union Springs, Alabama. Gertrude died in Jefferson County from complications with Tuberculosis. She was buried in Montgomery. This revelation has conjured new mysteries that I am trying to resolve.

  [S19] Alabama Death Index, (Ancestry.com), 19 May 1919. Alabama Center for Health Statistics reports via a Death Certificate, that Gertrude died from complications with Pulmonary Tuberculosis. [S16] Census Data - Ancestry.com, Ancestry.com, (Ancestry.com) (Reliability: 3). The 1930 Census for Cook County, Chicago City, Illinois has an Algie Day and a Daniel Day lodging with the Comer Family. It aears that many families were lodging at this residence. Finally found Dan and Algie on the 1920 Census living with Anna L. Judkins. They are listed as her children however which is very confusing. Daniel is alone with the Freemans April 12th, 1930 on this other 1930 Census. Thomas Day with his new wife on the 1930 Census [S17] Family Oral and Written History, Various (Reliability: 1). Notes given to me by Cynthia Day Finley on 08-22-2007 during a phone conversation. As recorded on a piece of paper she possessed. Mount "Meigs" - Lived 5 years in Alabama.
