- I suspect that Alex and Thomas are brothers. Related in some way at least. They seem to be the only reported Person families in the Weldon area. Alex is either Thomas' much younger brother, or nephew. Waiting for more leads. R. Finley Sr - 07/14/2007
Update: I missed on the first census that Thomas was married prior. Alex, could be his son. Thomas would have been 16 or 17 when Alex was born. This is a possibility. - RVF,SR. - -09-05-2007
- The 1850 Slave Census shows a Thomas J. Person that owned 39 slaves. Some of which were Mulatto. Mostly girls.
Garysburg, Weldon, South Weldon, Halifax, and Jackson all surround Northampton. The Person Family may have originated with North East, North Carolina. North Carolina in fact had the largest number of Person Families in 1840 to 1910. Source: 1840 and 1910 Census Records.
- During the Slave Census of 1860, a Gerd or (Good) Thomas J. Person, owned 10 slaves and 12 slave houses. Thomas, was a black man himself. The census was conducted in District 3, Northampton, North Carolina.
