Obituary text is as follows:
On May 25, 1951, Charles Edward Billings, Jr. became the first blessing of the union of Charles and Beatrice Billings in Chicago, Illinois. He was baptized at an early age at Ward Memorial Baptist Cnurch in Chicago, IL under the leadership of Reverend Swansey.
Charles graduated valedictorian from Louis Chaplain Elementary School before entering Englewood High School. He, then, worked his way to a position in management at Best Foods Company and realized his dream of retirement before reaching the age of 50.
While working at Best Foods, Charles attended school nightly at Chicago State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting in 1986. In 1992, he was awarded a Certificate in Production and Inventory Control from DePaul University. After retiring from Best Foods Charles became a substitute teacher for School District 149 in Dolton, Illinois.
Charles was an unusual sportsman - he favored fishing, golfing and bowling. He later, developed an interest in landscaping and was particularly proud of the pond and cobblestone walk-way he designed and built in his own backyard.
Charles felt that his life was incomplete and after much deliberation, he married his adult sweetheart, Sharon Byron. This union combined two households, including pets, "Buttons" and "Sir Charles" (Charlie). This union brought together a fully extended family.
Charles, or "Junior" as he was fondly called, loved and adored his family and although not in the best of health, "Junior" was a family man at heart.
God, in His mercy, called Charles from labor to reward on April 24, 2003. He will be greatly missed by his closest family and friends.
Fond memories of Charles will be cherished by family, friends, and all that knew him: his wife, Sharon Billings; 3 step-children, Dr. Rudy V. Byron (Maritza); Randy V. Byron, Shaunte Byron; an adopted son, Nolan 'Skip " Billings; a stepdaughter, Erica Jenkins (Eric) a grandson, Rudy V. Byron HI; his mother, Beatrice Billings; 1 brother, Gregory Billings; 1 sister, Karen Smith (Kenneth); 2 uncles, Alvin Byrd (Norma Jean) and Robert Byrd, Sr.; 4 aunts, Dolores Bolden (Rudolph) of New Orleans, LA, Margarite Williams, Mai/me Jones; and Katherine Estelle (John), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
