808 Update: We have found Vernard Wright. Vernard Wright was living in VA in 1917, he came down to Weldon during Kit's birth but then disappears after that. On Vernard's WWI Registration Card he states that he is from Weldon, NC. Thelma died in 1922 and this would explain why John was taken in by Martha Person and then later adopted by Thelma's sister, Mary Alice. On the 1930 Census for Charleston, SC, Marjorie Wright reports that her father is from Virginia. I can see why she thought this. He lived in Hopewell VA which is just 55 miles away. - R. Finley Sr. -06-17-2008 Person, Thelma Lea (P621)

820 We aren't 100% certain. But as Eliza shares Obadiah's surname, and her age, that this is probably Obie's mother. - R. Finley Sr. Johnson, Eliza (P2824)

821 We aren't certain on this line. There are only 4 lines of evidence to go on that this may be the Collins were are looking for.

1.) Family is "Collins" with a George at the right age.
2.) Adaline is white on the census, just as Daniel Day stated.
3.) Where they lived borders Springville, AL. Where Gertrude Ford was born.
4.) The children are all Mulatto.
5.) Family Rumor is that Gertrude has some Indian in her.

Evidence against:

1.) The family is not in Bullock as Thomas Day reported on his wife's (Gertrude's) Death Certificate.

It's possible George Collins, worked in Bullock for a while. It's still a mystery as far as who Gertrude Ford's mother is. One idea is that George married his sister. The "S" that we find on the census for 1870. However, we simply do not know this at this time. This may explain however why Gertrude ended up with the last name Ford as she may have been raised by another family... and why Collins is also Sweetie's last name on the Death Certificate. Could Thomas have been telling us something?

Further research is needed. - RVF

822 We don't know very much about Hezekiah and his wife Elsie Ann. They are listed on the Freedman's Register for Mississippi marriages. They lived in and near areas that was dominated by the slave trade. An excerpt from an article below gives some historical background about the area where they lived and farmed.

"Between 1820 and 1861 more than 60 percent of the Upper South's enslaved population was "sold South" in this manner. Mississippi's enslaved population increased by more than 225 percent. The destination of the enslaved people listed in the ‘Record Book’ were the slave markets at Natchez. The Natchez Trace led directly to one of the two largest and busiest slave markets in the entire Deep South. It was called “Forks of the Road” and was located at the intersection of Washington Road (now St. Catherine Street) and Liberty Road about a mile east of downtown Natchez. Slaves were also sold at the Adams County Courthouse itself, at Natchez Under-the-Hill and in various auction houses around town. But it’s almost certain it was at “Forks of the Road” slave market where the enslaved men, women and children mentioned in the ‘Record Book’ were brought.

823 We don't know very much about Katie Keyes. We have found a 25 year old Katie Keyes on a 1920 Census for(Jackson Ward 3, Hinds, Mississippi).
http://www.familyoriginstree.com/custom_images/1920_katiekeyes.jpg

Apparently, she was a cook for a private residence while her roommate was a cook for a restaurant. She declares that she was born in Mississippi as well as her parents. This Katie Keyes lived right around the corner from Hezekiah. Hezekiah and Annie May divorced around 1920 something. This is possibly her. However, Katherine Estelle, Rosa's half sister says that she remembers that Katie Keyes was a school teacher.

824 We don't know very much about the origins of the Chatman family. George Sr was our only remaining link and unfortunately, he wasn't really sure where his parents came from or who they were. Family tradition asserts that George's father was white and his mother was black. On a few censuses he told the enumerator that his father was from Louisiana while his mother was from South Carolina. Chatman, Big Daddy (P988)

826 We find a widowed 70 year old David Day is listed as a neighbor of Richard Day Sr. on the 1910 Census for Mount Meigs, Alabama. His occupation at that time was farmer. It's very possible that David Day is Richard Day's father. In the same area we find only a few other Day families. They could possibly be related although we have no verification at this time. 828 We find a William, written as(Wm), Estelle on the 1880 Census, Part & Part II. This may be our William Estelle. The mother isn't mention. Two people aren't mentioned as far as who they are: A 50 year old Mary Estel. She might be an aunt, and Fanny a nurse. How they are related to Jno, is not mentioned. There are two Janes, both nurses, both aged 12, one sister, the other a daughter. I think however that the census taker made an error as he was about to flip the page. I think there is only one Jane and she was his daughter, a nurse, and Mary is his sister. I will document it as such until someone can show me otherwise. BTW, Jno is an abbreviation for John back then. I have no idea why. heh. - R. Finley Sr - 08-18-2007

830 We find Robert Billings on a 1930 census. There is a low probability currently that this is the same Robert Billings related to Charles Billings, the minister. - R. Finley Sr. 07/25/2007 Johnson, Sarah (P188)

832 We really don't know which of the Day brothers married Dora Brassel. Bob is the only Day that's old enough and lived close by however. Hopefully more Day family will be able to let us in on the truth behind the many Day mysteries. Brassell, Dora (P680)

835 Willie Anna Chatman confesses to her daughter Mary Frances LaSaine, then about 20, that she gave birth to a child but later gave it up. Mary thinks that she said the child was a boy. Child would be about 80 today if she gave birth to child at around 16 years of age. The only lead I have so far:
Anna Jean Garrett, b. 24 Jan 1931 in Harris county Texas. Parents: William Garrett and Willie Chapman. Source - Texas Birth records. However, Willie Anna was already in Kentucky by then at nursing school. - R. Finley Sr.
